The Kid’s alright
There’s more to Kid Creole & The Coconuts than ‘Annie, I’m Not Your Daddy’ as any one who saw the band live at Bestival will know. Proof of this is to be found on the newly reformed Strut Records’ new retrospective compilation.
It documents Creole’s career as a musician and producer from his days as a member of disco outfit Dr. Buzzard's Savannah Band, through to his time as the leader of the chart-topping, genre bending Coconuts.
The compilation avoids Creole’s better known work and instead highlights rare and unreleased recordings such as the wonderful Don Armando’s Second Coming Avenue Rhumba Band’s ‘Goin’ To A Showdown’.
If you’re a sucker for the Coconut’s fusion of big band jazz, disco and salsa, this compilation should be on your wants list.
